Hey there buddy last night was outrageously fun. You sure now how to have fun shin dings! You guys did a great job with the yard, it looked really nice minus them DAMN mosquitoes who invited them anyways. They sure to crash the parties, LOL This is the first time I have been on your web page and it is truly amazing. Kerri did an awesome job and I had tears running down my face reading her story. I never heard about her kids before that’s so heart breaking She is an amazing gal with all she has been through. I believe with all my heart that you have found a girl like that. Shannon is going to be there for you for the good times and bad times! God has put you two together for a reason. I will be hear always for both of you if you need anything or if you just need to vent your emotions. I am amazed at your faith at a time like this, you are an inspiration to us all! Hello all! Well, it’s been very eventful once again! Last Thursday, Kip had his Quarterly check-up (Grandma Sue & Grandma Nancy came along) and it was pretty much the same routine, but we had a speech therapist and a nutritionist meet with us this time…the nutritionist walked in and said “well, it doesn’t look like your weight has changed any”…I just had to chuckle b/c Kip truly has always been a very “healthy” eater…as many of you know! Not much of a sweet guy because he always says he’s sweet enough:) Isn’t that the truth! His legs and arms have lost very much muscle tone…so you know what that means…it’s all going to his belly!! He’ll soon have a new place to rest the beer (aka: vitamin B12 as he would say!). The speech therapist did some da, da, da…blah, blah, blah tests and then checked the strength of his tongue and she said “You have a very strong tongue…I like that” and we all about busted out laughing…and leave it to Kip…he said “Most women do”…I think the speech therapist about died!! He was also asked to do a breathing test (blow out into a tube) and last quarter it was 108% and this time it was 98%. They don’t really like it to drop more than 9%, but that machine can change everyday…so we’re good! With that said, there is a new study that is underway…Lithium!! With his high levels (breathing), he’s a perfect candidate for it and our clinic was lucky enough to be chosen (I think our Dr. said 4 individuals). If you haven’t heard about it, there was a study done with some patients in Italy and it proved to be so promising (although it was a small sample of people) that the funding and everything was established at a very rapid rate. It proved to extend the lives of the patients tested. We’ll be hearing more about that in the near future! He’ll have to undergo many blood draws and testing to ensure there’s no signs of kidney failure, but that’s minor! Hope is the best word to describe it!! On another note, we had an amazing time in the Black Hills! We put on 98 miles! Kip loves his Rhino!! Thank you so much to the Hoeschen’s!! We love you! We got to see Grandma & Grandpa Blomquist too…what a treat! We also made it to the cabin this last weekend and Grandpa Galin drove Kip in the rhino…I can’t even begin to think of the bickering that went on…I can just hear Kip “slower…, faster…this way…” The two of them are TROUBLE!! We put on about 50 miles! We leave for Sun City, AZ. this weekend. Never a dull moment, right?! Grandpa Don & Mary Jean (GG-aka: Great Grandma) live there and we miss them very much and are very anxious for them to meet Maddie. The sun will be SO great for Kip too…it will be a very short weekend, but I’m sure many memories! It will be many first’s for Madison and I’m sure some lasts for Kip…it’s tough to find a win, win situation these days, but the Blomquist’s are SO grateful for what we have now! Kids update: Breana’s graduation is June 7th…so sad, but happy…She’s on her way to St. Cloud State (I can’t wait to see my old stomping grounds…Go Huskies)!! We are so proud of that girl! Mitch finishes up drivers education next week (that’s sad & happy as well…they are growing up so fast!). Jordan is doing good! He’s growing like a weed and very excited for summer! Maddie has recently been diagnosed with torticollis (one tight side to her neck and one weak side) and plagicepholy (one side of her head is flatter b/c she favors it when lying down)…I guess she was a little too crammed in my tummy. It will be fixed in 12 weeks w/ therapy and a craniocap. One more thing to add to the pot! I just said when it rains, it pours…but there’s bound to be sunny days too! Kip is working very minimal nowadays, so swing in and see him if you get a chance…he’s loving company all the more now that he’s off (plus, I know someone is with him at all times and they can tell him to “SIT DOWN”…he’s stubborn some days). Hey you, Since we are getting cabins for the camping trip this year Dale figured we needed a boat since we won’t be pulling the camper. Hey Kip and Shannon, I just talked to my friend Shelli Miller today regarding her brother-n-law’s benefit last Saturday and found out that you guys were there. Update: It’s been yet another busy week at the Blomquist’s! The estimator came to go over some re-vamping issues and we’re pretty sure we know the layout….I’m telling you…it’s tough to figure out where you want the toilet to be:) aka $hitter! We also had another ramp put in…if you’ve been in our house it’s from the kitchen to the living room…one step down (and if you haven’t been there…shame on you). Rick came and squared that away in no time…you rock Rick!! I think I’ve pretty much known what to expect so far, but yesterday was a different story…the wheelchair was delivered. I’m not gonna lie…that was tough. I was talking with Breana and telling her how I felt about it and she said “you should see what the thing can do”…she helped me in a time when I needed her most…that’s what we’re there for…to cheer one another up when the other one isn’t so happy. Needless to say, Kip now has yet another new motorized toy…as if he doesn’t have enough, right?! I just can’t wait until the taste of MN or State Fair…everyone will move out of the way for us and he can hold my purse to the same time:) Nice! Just kidding…gotta have a sense of humor! He was showing me just this morning how far the wheelchair reclines…he got to a point where it almost tipped him right out…now I know how to get him out of the thing when I’m mad at him:) He is down to three days at work with shorter hours as well…he loves his days off to go, go, go but he gets pooped quite fast! He’s on his way out the door as we speak to go have lunch with friends. I’m so glad it’s getting nicer outside! Well, I think that’s all for now…Happy Friday everyone and “Never Give Up”. Update: The ramp in the garage is in (Thank you Rick & Paul!)…now we just await the wheelchair. It should be here in the next couple days. We are in the process of figuring out the bathroom and the deck…so many things to think about, such as doors, floors and ramps. We have such great friends…we are so thankful for the support…needless to say it will be a very busy summer at the Blomquist’s. If you have free time, grab a hammer and come on over! It was a beautiful Saturday…we just can’t wait for the warmth! Last night, Kip and I were in the garage and he just look frustrated…I said “what’s wrong?” and said “My garage”…he’s so anal! He was just so upset that he couldn’t move as quickly as he’d like to so he could pick things up…needless to say, I was out there at 10 pm picking up stuff…yep, the garage is cleaner than the house! Keep in mind if you come over, he’s gonna put you to work…Right, Dana?!! I mean, when the freezer needs to be defrosted…it needs to be done right then and it has to be done in a certain way! Gotta love him! My mom has been babysitting on Vicki’s off days and he even has her working! My dad came over and did some spring cleaning as well…I hope they come back to visit:) Just kidding…they love it! On the agenda tonight…going thru the shoe shelves and all the hats and mittens…that’s his plan anyways:) Anyone want to come over?! With all that said, he is mentally feeling good. Is a bit more short fused, but still loves life! His physical ability is going down quite fast, but when in doubt…the Rhino will take him to where he wants to go:) He just loves that thing! He’s taken quite a few more falls, so you’ll most likely see him using his cane now. I love the fact that he’s not being stubborn about it…his body just doesn’t want to move as fast as his brain tells him and he’s realizing that. Alot of people ask about his driving abilities…GET OFF THE ROAD!! Just kidding! He’s always taken those stop signs too fast for me and yesterday when I was complaining about it, he told me that we have to start driving separate! Funny guy!! No really…so far, so good. I ask him all the time. As much as he loves his job (By the way…Thank you Randy & Rob…you guys mean a lot to us!!), this last week he really felt like it was getting to be alot, so we’ll have to see. Hi Honey! It’s your Friday! I’m really proud of your strength this week…it’s been a busy one! Update: Kip is in the process of being fitted for his “hot rod” wheelchair…the girls that helped us thought it would be best if he had front wheel drive so he can ride on grass, gravel…they can tell he still really has alot of will power and wants to make it a good summer…plus the guy has owned a 4-wheeler for how long…he’s not going to settle for a scrawny one! He is looking forward to the warmth! We’re also are in the process of figuring out the house…they want to be sure he can get everywhere he wants to go We got a new toilet this week…it’s tall…my feet dangle when I sit on it, but Kip and Mitch find it perfect:) You should’ve seen us in Menards sitting on toilets…Breana and I just chuckled!! Nice! Kip also had his lift chair delivered…it’s great! At the push of a button he can recline, stand up, get a massage and get warm…Thank you Brian & Tara!! We just purchased a scooter for him to use at work…this whole week he’s come home with a grin…he loves his scooter!! He took the small basket off the front to put a bigger one on that holds his lunch box…what a goof! If you can only picture him:) He also just started new shakes…Reliv…He really likes them and we’ve heard great things. We’ve kind of fallen off the ladder with the organic juicing…bad wife:) I don’t think of it until we’re laying in bed!! Busy, busy! He’s doing good otherwise…takes his tumbles and still laughs…I know it’s not the funniest thing, but when you hear “boom” and go to find him and he’s laughing at himself…it’s pretty cute! That’s our Kippy! Kids Update: Breana is starting to look into collage…she turns 18 in less than 3 months…we don’t want her to go far, but I suppose we have to let her go sometime…Breana, we give you (at the most) an hour away:) Mitch is signed up for drivers training…he’s a better driver than me and he doesn’t even have his license. And Jordan turned the big “10″ last week! Dana, Nick, Jordan & I went to the Timberwolves…they lost, but it was a great time! Dad commends him all the time for being such a good son…he sure is growing up! Madison weighted 15 lbs last week (4 months)…pretty much in the 60th percentile for everything. She has a flat spot on her head so we have to head to Gillette’s soon, but we are hopeful she may just have to wear a little something for a short time to make her head more proportioned As we were leaving the hospital…I was talking to her and saying “Kid, we cannot be doing this right now”…I’m sure people thought I was crazy:) Lots of Love from the Blomquist’s!

At times like this there is not much a person can say. Hello there! I just wanted to express my love and appreciation for everything we have been gifted with…from the great attendance at the benefit, to everyone logging on and thinking about us! Kip loves seeing the entries…keep ‘em comin’! We truly are blessed…take the good with the bad, right?! I just keep asking Kip if he realizes how much he is loved…I don’t think Saturday night has set in yet! An update from my standpoint: He favors his right side, and is starting to favor is left. He is in amazing spirits…truly! He gets pretty pooped out at night and gets pretty stumbly, but is able to laugh at himself:) He loves his little “wheely chair” in the garage and especially loves when visitors stop into see him. Although we slack once in a while, we are continuing doing his organic juicing…about 8 carrots, celery, beets and a pear for flavor…yummy! He also is taking many, many vitamins twice a day…can’t even begin to tell you the names:) He works about 3-4 days a week and wants to take care of Maddie until he can’t any longer during his days off. The kids and I get him all settled in on the main floor when he stays home…that way he doesn’t have to risk the stairs (he’s never fallen all the way down the stairs, but he gradually slips down them once in a while). I swear he’s got Maddie addicted to Turkey hunting and Deer hunting…she like the t.v. too much for a 4 month old:) They bond on the couch:) He enjoys his Rhino and takes a ride every night…I don’t think he’s missed one since we purchased it. Look out…if you come over and you’ve never been on the Rhino…you will be:) It’s good for his independence! The only icky thing that I’ve really noticed lately is his troubleshooting trying to get his pants buttoned…that’s what he has a wife for:) Other than that, we are enjoying everyday together! Greetings to the entire Blomquist family! I am a friend of Shannon’s from High School. Receiving the news of having health issues is one of the hardest events for a family to receive, but I also know that there are so many positive aspects that come out it. Sometimes it seems hard to find them, but if you look they are there. Recently, I struggled with the news of my dad being diagnosed with cancer, only 5 years after my mom passed away from cancer. I hated the world, God, myself, and all aspects of living for awhile because I thought it was so unfair to give my dad such a crappy disease. As time went on, I looked at everything in a different light and realized the valuable time I was given with my dad, and all the wonderful qualities I was receiving from him while I watched him battle against cancer. I started looking at life in a different way…..little things don’t matter anymore, and I started to let things go rather than dwell on them. Time is too short, and the only thing that mattered was standing by my dad regardless of what else happened during the day. Everything that went on with my dad..I analyzed it as positive as possible and kept telling myself that this is all happening for some reason. I may not know the reason now, but someday it will be given to me in some form and I will be thankful for that. God only allows those that are the strongest to deal with the crap that the weak cannot afford. This diagnoses is truth that God truly believes that you are strong and this chapter of your life is just that, a chapter, and you will have other chapters after this…..this is NOT the end of your book! Make the rest of your book eventful, positive and interesting and as hard as it my seem, do not let ALS define you…..You are Kip Bloomquist, not Kip Blomquist who has ALS. Continue to live strong and focus on the blessing of family and friends. I think about your family often and pray that you can find some forms of comfort on the days that don’t seem so promising. Know that you are not in this alone and even though you do not physically see all of us each day, we are fighting with you. **On another note….when my dad was diagnosed with cancer in 2005, we also learned that my cousin was diagnosed with ALS. My dad recently passed away last month from the cancer, and my cousin continues to live a great life and still works out of the home, enjoys vacations, and tries to be in the “norm” as much as he is allowed. It is amazing at how well he is doing. Truthfully, he has the obvious “bad” days, but we don’t hear about them as often. There are miracles out there, and don’t feel like you are not worthy of being one of them. Instead of focusing on “why me” look at it as “why not me”. If you are capable of receiving a diagnoses then you are just as much capable of receiving a miracle. Lots of Love and Prayers to the Entire Family!!!
